These are survey estimates, not a count of every person in the country. The Pew Research Center’s 2023-24 Religious Landscape Study surveyed more than 36,000 U.S. adults and reports results for adults, not children. The religious-switching figure comes from Pew’s separate 2023-24 survey analysis. Definitions, wording, and collection dates can affect results, so use the linked report when a story, study, or discussion needs further detail.
