Text: Gospel of Thomas, Logion 3 “If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.”
Beloved Family, welcome in His grace.
I want to begin not with an answer, but with the question that lives in all of us: Why do we ache for intimacy as if our lives depend on it? Because they do.
That ache is not neediness. That ache is Gnosis trying to be born. It is the Divine Spark within you remembering where it came from. The world told you that you were born alone and must search for your other half. The Spirit tells you a different story, that you were born Whole, and you forgot.
Let us name what Perfect Intimacy truly is. I want to give you three unveilings this evening.
I. The First Veil: Intimacy Is Not Union. It Is Recognition.
The world teaches that two broken pieces make a whole. That is the lie of the Demiurge. It keeps you forever hunting, forever performing, forever afraid that if you are truly seen, you will be abandoned.
But hear the teaching of Yehoshua in the secret place: He did not come to make bad men good. He came to awaken sleeping gods.
Perfect intimacy happens in that sacred moment when your Spark beholds the Spark in another and whispers, “Ah. I know you. I have always known you.”
We call that Anamnesis, the un-forgetting.
You have felt it. That moment when a conversation drops below the small talk and suddenly you are not speaking to a stranger, you are communing with a fellow traveler you met before time began. That is not sentiment. That is the Christ in you recognizing the Christ in them.
Our problem is not that we are unloved. Our problem is that we are veiled.
II. The Second Veil: The Courage to Be Fully Known.
Beloved, you cannot be truly loved until you are truly seen. And you cannot be truly seen while you are wearing masks.
And what are these masks? They are the garments the world gave you to survive. The strong one. The pious one, the put-together one, the one who never needs anything.
Scripture calls it the old man. The Gnostics called it the counterfeit spirit. I call it exhaustion.
The Gospel of Philip says, “Truth did not come into the world naked, but it came in types and images. The world will not receive truth in any other way.”
But in the Bridal Chamber, there are no types and images. There is naked Truth.
This is why intimacy terrifies us. Because to be intimate, we must practice resurrection while we are still alive. To stand before another and say, “Here is my light, and here is my shadow. Here is my faith, and here is my fear. Will you still remain?”
That, my friends, is where Forgiven Temple must live. We are not a congregation that gathers to impress. We are a Temple that gathers to unveil. Where a brother can say “I am struggling” without losing his worth. Where a sister can say “I have doubted” and find she is not cast out, but drawn in deeper.
For what is forgiven is not just sin. What is forgiven is the illusion that you ever had to hide.
III. The Third Veil: The Bridal Chamber Within.
Finally, and most deeply, the perfect intimacy you seek with another is preparation for the Perfect Intimacy you are called to with the Source itself. The ancient mystics did not speak of salvation as going to heaven. They spoke of the Bridal Chamber, that inner holy of holies where your soul, which they called Sophia, is finally wedded to your Spirit, which is in the Christ.
You have been looking for a soulmate in the world when your true Soulmate has been waiting within. When you bring forth what is within you, that secret, luminous, unbreakable Spark, you will no longer beg for love from the outside. You will begin to overflow love from the inside. Then your relationships stop being wells you draw from to survive, and become rivers through which Grace flows to others.
This is the great reversal: You do not find perfect intimacy and then become whole. You remember your Wholeness, and then you become capable of perfect intimacy.
So here is my invitation, my gentle invitation to a deeper knowing:
This week, practice one holy act of unveiling.
Not with everyone, with one safe soul. Let one mask slip. Speak one true thing you have been carrying alone. “This is what I really feel.” “This is where I really am.”
And as you speak it, watch. Not whether they fix it. Watch whether the Light remains. It will. Remember the Light in them cannot be threatened by the truth in you.
For we are not building a church of perfect people, we are remembering ourselves as a Temple of unveiled people. We are people who have finally stopped pretending and started beholding.
May the One who dwells within you beyond all veils awaken this day.
May you be fully seen, fully known, and find that you are still fully loved.
And may you return to that perfect intimacy that has never left you.
Amen and Amen.
